My Poems
Aloha, Craig! We understand that choosing the right family to work with can be a difficult decision. I’ve put together this page just for you to help you get to know our father, whom you will be caring for, as well as our family and the home you will be living in. Please know that we would love to work with you and welcome you into our Ohana!
About Joe
The patriarch of the Monzon Family
I am a U.S. Navy veteran whose passions are my family, farming, helping others, God, and writing poetry.

His Story
Joe's Beginnings

Joe was born in Cavite, Philippines, in 1929. He is the eldest in his family, with one younger brother and five younger sisters. Growing up in a poor family, his mission in life was to find a better life for himself, his parents, siblings, and future family. He joined the U.S. Navy, achieved the rank of Chief Petty Officer, and traveled the world, visiting places like Spain, Japan, and the United States. He is a proud American and a Vietnam veteran.
Joe's Family

While Joe had a great career, his greatest achievement and source of pride was his family. He married Esperanza, with whom he shared 65 years of marriage until her passing. Together, they had four children: Arnel, Dodi, Grace, and Mike. He is currently blessed with 10 grandchildren and 5 great-grandchildren. Not only did he provide a better life for his wife and children, but he also brought his mother, father, siblings, and their children to the U.S. so they, too, could have better lives.
Joe's Passions

Joe’s greatest passions were his family, writing poetry, farming, his faith in God, and serving others. He secretly began writing poetry in 1953, drawing inspiration from the many people and events that shaped his life. Coming from a family of farmers in the Philippines, Joe had a deep love for gardening. Before his strokes, he tended to his fruit and vegetable garden every day. At one point, he even built an elaborate aquaponics farm beside his house.

A devout Catholic, Joe was a dedicated member of the Our Lady of Good Counsel Church. He and my mom prayed the rosary together every night, a testament to their strong faith.

Joe led a life rooted in service. In addition to being an active member of his church, he served as president of a local civic organization, the Cavitenian and Associates of Hawaii. Joe was always someone who saw the good in others and never hesitated to help those in need. He made friends out of strangers, offering a place to stay to families from the Shriners organization and even strangers stranded at the airport. He also supported distant relatives financially throughout his life, always extending a helping hand.
